I hope you’ve had the pleasure of sharing a meal with someone special at Michael’s Restaurant in Rochester, Minnesota. It’s a magical place where you feel as if you’ve traveled back in time and you forget about the bustling city right outside those beautiful front doors. A place where valet parking still exists and the only place to go for a killer Mandarin Orange Chicken Salad.
Rochester’s own Post Bulletin reported today that Michaels Restaurant will be closing it’s doors by year end to make way for new projects.
Rochester developer Gus Chafoulias and the Pappas family, which has owned Michaels restaurant in downtown Rochester for generations, have reached an agreement to close the restaurant, demolish the building and jointly develop the site to link up with the new Broadway at Center project.
What are your thoughts on this? Out with the old and in with the new; or do you think we should work to preserve some of the most iconic places in Rochester?
